Ingredients
  

  • 4 large onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp thyme optional
  • ½ cup grated cheese optional
  • 4 slices toasted bread optional

Method
 

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 15–20 minutes.
  3. Pour in broth, add salt, pepper, and thyme, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  5. Serve hot, optionally topping with toasted bread and grated cheese.
