Method
- Rinse basmati rice under cold water until water runs clear.
- Heat oil or butter in a pot over medium heat.
- Add cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and bay leaf; sauté for 1 minute.
- Add the rinsed rice and stir gently to coat with the spices.
- Pour in water and add salt; bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until water is absorbed.
- Turn off heat and let rice sit covered for 5 minutes.
- Fluff rice with a fork, garnish with herbs if desired, and serve.
Notes
Use basmati rice for the best fragrance and texture.
Do not stir too much while cooking to avoid breaking grains.
You can add a few saffron strands soaked in warm milk for extra aroma.
