Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour 360g
  • 1 cup rolled oats 90g
  • 1 cup warm milk 240ml
  • teaspoons active dry yeast 7g
  • ¼ cup honey 85g
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter 28g
  • 1 teaspoon salt 5g
  • ½ cup warm water 120ml
  • 1 tablespoon sugar 12g
  • Extra rolled oats for topping optional

Method

  1. Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add warm milk, honey, melted butter, and salt, then stir until combined.
  3. Mix in rolled oats, then gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
  8. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F) and sprinkle oats on top if desired.
  9. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Cool for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use warm—not hot—liquids to keep yeast active.
Avoid adding too much flour to maintain soft texture.
Rolled oats work best; instant oats may affect texture.
Allow bread to cool before slicing to prevent a dense crumb.
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze sliced bread.
