Method
- Whisk milk, cream, sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Temper egg yolks with a little hot pudding mixture, then whisk back into saucepan.
- Cook 1–2 minutes until silky and custard-like.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
- Layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, and warm pudding in a dish.
- Repeat layers and finish with pudding on top.
- Cover and chill at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Top with whipped cream before serving.
Notes
Use ripe but firm bananas for best texture.

For extra indulgence, fold whipped cream into pudding.
