Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • ½ cup granulated sugar for coating
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
  • 1 cup melted chocolate for dipping

Method
 

  1. In a saucepan, bring water, butter, sugar, and salt to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and add flour, stirring continuously until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before mixing in egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Pipe strips of dough directly into hot oil and fry until golden brown.
  7. Remove churros and drain on paper towels.
  8. Roll warm churros in sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  9. Serve warm with melted chocolate for dipping.
